Pacing of Unit 8 with CT Connections

Only the lesson that have a change made to them are listed below. All other lessons should be taught as shown in EDM book.

  • 8.2—Replace “Demonstrating and Playing Shape Capture” on p. 699 with Making Shapes Using Vertices Scratch lesson. Extension and accommodation activities are included in the lesson. Consider doing the Optional Unplugged Activity included in the lesson before allowing student to work on computers. However, this will add time to the lesson.
  • 8.3—Change the “Math Message” on page 704.
    1. Pass out the worksheets students completed yesterday in the Scratch lesson, Making Shapes Using Vertices.
    2. Give these directions: Using your straw and twist ties, make at least 2 different shapes 3-sided shapes. These should be one of the shapes you created yesterday from this worksheet.
  • 8.4—Day 1: Instead of using “Math Masters p. 218” shown on page 711, allow student to open their Making Shapes Using Vertices Scratch lesson.
    • Show students how to change the backdrop to the backdrop with dots. Let them use the activity to find a solution to problems 1 and 2 “Math Masters p. 217” shown on p 711. When they have a shape that works for each problem, they should record their answers on “Math Masters p. 218” shown on page 711. They should also answer question 3 on “Math Masters p. 217” shown on p 711.
  • 8.4—Day 2: Add the Optional Unplugged Activity #1 from Attributes of 2D Shapes Scratch activity (teacher version) and do steps #1 and #2 in the lesson. Explain the rest of the lesson to students. Notice the extensions and accommodations listed for this lesson. Decide how you will use them with your students.
