Only the lessons that have a change made to them are listed below. All other lessons should be taught as shown in the EDM book.

  • 5-1
    • Replace the “Warm Up” on p. 442. Extend the time to about 20 minutes. Instead use the Unplugged activity, What’s a Broadcast?, from the Fish Scratch Lesson.
    • Replace “Decomposing Fractions and Mixed Numbers” on page. 442 with Fish Scratch lesson steps #1—11.
    • Eliminate, “Playing Multiplication Top-It (Advanced Version)” on p. 445.
    • Eliminate, “Playing Multiplication Top-It (Advanced Version)” on p. 445.
    • Collect and approve students, completed Planning Page. As students wait for you to approve their problems, they should work on “Math Journal 2, p.155” shown on p. 444.

    • Replace “Mental Math and Fluency” on page 448 with the Unplugged If__then,___, else Activity on p. 8, or the Unplugged Ask and Wait Activity on p. 9 of Fish Scratch lesson.
  • 5-3
    • Eliminate “Mental Math and Fluency” on p. 454 and “Practice” on page 457. Instead pass back students’ Planning Page worksheet they completed in lesson 5-1. Allow time for students to complete their Fractional Parts project on Scratch.

    • Consider replacing “Playing Decimal Top-It” on page 463. Instead allow time for students to share their Fractional Parts projects on Scratch.
