Pacing of Unit 6 with CT Connections

Only the lessons that have a change made to them are listed below. All other lessons should be taught as shown in EDM book.

  • 6.6
    • Consider eliminating “Mental Math and Fluency” on page 588 and “Playing Decimal Top-It” on page 591.
      • Ask students to use their debugged Scratch activity they created in Unit 1 to calculate the volume of the Willis Tower on “Math Masters p. 226” shown on p. 588. Use the Willis Tower planning page p. 11 to help with the problem.
      • The poster they create in this lesson (directions on page 589 last paragraph) summarizing how they found their results, should also mention and explain the code they used in their debugged Scratch activity.
      • Allow students to use their debugged Scratch activity to help solve the problems found on “Math Masters p. 228” shown on p. 591.
  • 6.10 – (This is already a 2 day lesson)
    1. Day 1
      • Replace part of “Solving the Open Response Problem” on p. 612 with steps 1—5 of the Lesson on Avery’s Cookies Scratch lesson. Use the Balloons Scratch activity problem instead of the problems given on “Math Masters p. 236” shown on p. 612.
      • Use student created problems from the Balloon Worksheet p. 8 for “Getting Ready for Day 2” on page 613 instead of “Math Masters p. 236” shown on p. 612.
    2. Day 2
      • Complete the rest of the Avery’s Cookies Scratch lesson. Start with step 6 in the lesson.
      • Extensions and accommodations are listed in the lesson.
      • Use questions on page 614 to discuss Students’ completed projects.
